Drupal HowTo: Turn Off The "Read More" In Commerce Product Displays

As any regular producer of Drupal sites will know, be it a Developer, a Themer, an Administrator or all of the above, some times you want to be able to do something in Drupal which sounds simple, and in fact, IS very simple, but only when you know how. One of the many projects I\'m involved with is the heavy metal t-shirt and greetings cards online store Raging Horns (www.raginghorns.com) which is built in, yep, you guessed it, Drupal Commerce. Upon the advice of an excellent SEO friend of m....

A Drupalcamp London 2014 Roundup

Drupalcamp London 2014 was a thoroughly enjoyable experience which brought together something like 600 members of the Drupal community from the UK and indeed across Europe and a few welcome visitors from across the pond as well for three very informative and productive days about Drupal held at City University in Islington. The CxO day on the Friday was full of interesting presentations and great discussion during the unconference afternoon session, particularly on some of the usual elephants ....

Returning To The Drupal Way

After three and a bit very successful and fun years with my previous company, last week I changed jobs. Quite a big deal in anyone\'s life, and even more so for me as it meant the end of a 2 hour car/train/tube commute each way to the office was being replaced by a 20-30 minute car journey (traffic willing). Despite the fact in my previous job my job title was \"Drupal Technical Lead\", I hadn\'t done any what you would call \"proper Drupal\" for almost a year. From February 2013 I was in ch....

The Most Valuable Asset Is Time

This website was first approved for Drupal Planet over four months ago, and I\'d encourage any readers to hazard a guess as to how much Drupal relevant content I\'ve written since I achieved that milestone. If you guessed zero, you\'d be spot on. This got me thinking as to why this is, and it just comes back to the same word over and over again; Time. For the last two years plus I\'ve worked in a demanding job where I\'ve been able to make use of large amounts of work put in by the Drupal com....

Drupa 6: Adding a relationship to a Custom Module via a CCK content field in Views 3

Recently, I've been taking my first plunge into the world of custom coding for Drupal Views, with version 3 of the views module and Drupal 6. I've been doing various things such as trying to expose a custom module's database table to views, and establish relationships between my custom table and existing parts of the site in question, and it is this aspect of views that I am going to focus on with this post. Usually, when setting up a relationship or a join in Views, you will be associating ....

Drupal 6 Clinic: Why Does My SQL Preview in Views Look Wrong?

This is more of a post about a Drupal curiousity I discovered the other day than anything but other people may have come across or wondered about the same thing so I thought I\\\'d just do a quick summary. I was constructing a rather complicated View on a Drupal 6 site using Views 3 the other day and I noticed that not all of the fields seemed to be appearing in the substantial SQL query preview generated by views when a preview of the output is generated. I wondered if this was something unt....

Drupal 6 Clinic: How To Easily See The Weights Of CCK Form Fields

A problem that may arise from time to time is that as a Drupal developer, you may wish to know the weight of a particular form field when dealing with a CCK content type. There are a couple of ways to achieve this; If so inclined on the "Manage Fields" screen where an admin user has the ability to drag and drop the order of the fields you could disable JavaScript in your browser. This would show the dropdown form field for field weight for each field. Alternatively, if you don't want to mess....

Drupal Science Camp Cambridge 2012: A Brief Recap

First off, a very belated happy new year to any visitors to FiveRDesign.co.uk! I've been meaning to write this blog for a couple of weeks now, but late is certainly better than never. A couple of weekends ago I was fortunate enough to attend the Drupal Science Camp event at the Milton Science Park on the North outskirts of Cambridge. Cambridge has had a fairly active Drupal community over the last couple of years, of which I have been an appalling inactive member when it comes to attending me....

Drupalcon London 2011 Day Two Catch Up

Day two of Drupalcon London and it was definitely 'the morning after the night before' for a lot of people at Fairfield Halls in Croydon. Things were much calmer and the initial volume levels from the assembled masses more muted than on the opening day as many people nursed some sore heads. Nevertheless the main hall was packed by just after 9am in time for the days keynote from Tom Standage, Digital Editor from The Economist magazine. I wasn't too sure prior to the keynote what form his talk wa....

A Really Good Drupal Theming Introduction Resource

Browsing the Planet Drupal feed as we do regularly to keep up-to-date on the latest Drupal developments, there was an extremely nice post on the basics of Drupal Theming at the simplest level by the good people over at Chapter Three. For anyone who's done some PHP or standard XHTML/CSS web design but not yet dipped into Drupal theming it is a really good starter explanation. We are very keen to see what parts two and three bring but in the meantime the link for part one for anyone who wishes to ....

Drupalcon London 2011 Day One Catch Up

The first day of the biggest Drupalcon to date saw over 1,700 drupalers descend on Fairfield Halls in Croydon for Drupalcon London (or Drupalcon Croydon as it was jokingly referred to by Robert Douglass and Jam in their 'Survive and Thrive' fun filled intro session). After our visits from the ghosts of Drupalcon's past, present and future, including a very amusing rap from 'The Ghost of Drupalcon Present' it was time for Dries traditional Drupalcon opening keynote. I won't go into detail about t....

Drupal London February Drupal Drop-In Recap: Useful Modules That Not Everyone Knows About

Last night, myself and a colleague on my current contract assignment went to the February Drupal Drop-in from the Drupal London community, held at Microsoft's very swanky offices near Victoria Tube station. The theme of the evening was useful modules that maybe not everyone would be aware of, so there were not going to be any talks on CCK and Views and "standard" modules such as those. What followed were a wide range of presentations and copious amounts of free Domino's pizza (again, thanks t....

Drupal: Customising the comments form title

As we move into 2011, I have been doing a lot of work with comments in Drupal lately (Drupal 6 to be specific). One thing I have always wanted to know how to do, but never got round to investigating until recently, was the ability to customise the "Post new comment" tagline at the top of the comment form. Anyone with a passing familarity of the inner working of Drupal would assume that you need to use a "_form_alter" (or Form Alter in English) hook to modify this piece of text on the form. T....

Why You Should Go To Drupalcamp Scotland

Just a heads up to anyone who reads the FiveRDesign blog - this weekend is the inaugural Drupalcamp Scotland, to be held in Edinburgh. One of the people speaking at Drupalcamp Scotland is Chris Muktar, co-founder of WikiJob.co.uk, my former boss and my friend. If you're in the Edinburgh area and you are a Drupal person, please go along to hear what he has to say. If you are looking at using Drupal (or you already do use Drupal) for a platform to help grow your business in a relatively short s....

How to Insert Advertising into Drupal Advanced Forum

I have seen a number of topics on drupal.org discuss this problem without offering a real solution, so thought I would document my experiences in dealing with this for anyone who may have been struggling as I was. On WikiJob.co.uk (my day job), we have the UK's largest and most active graduate forum. We've been trying to develop the job board side of our website recently whilst keeping the forums and community at the focus of what we are doing. Some recent feedback from some people we met at ....
